National SMEs Conference

Introduction

SMEs in the country account for 98.5 percent of Malaysia’s businesses, comprising mainly of 89.2 percent from Services sector and 5.3 percent from the Manufacturing sector. However, in 2017 a survey conducted by MATRADE found that only 17.8% of the 900 000 local SME’s were exporters. To encourage growth in this sector the government has allocated a total of RM17.94bil for SME development in 2019 under the Third Focus: To Foster an Entrepreneurial Economy. Among the key initiatives include financing, Industry 4.0, export, tourism, agriculture, entrepreneurship, human capital development and incentives.

The Kini Academy Sdn. Bhd. (The academic arm of Malaysiakini) and The Malaysian Export Academy (M) Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Malaysian Exporters Association (MEXPA), are jointly organizing the National SMEs conference on the 14th & 15th of October 2019 at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Our objective is to support the governments initiative of this new wave of growth; by providing an oasis of knowledge, information and networks for participants to embark this transformation in order to stay competitive and reach new heights by embracing internationalization in their businesses.

The Conference will discuss and provide SMEs a complete guide to go international with 4 panel discussions and various topics discussed. The Conference will encompass, challenges and opportunity of going international, types of channels available to go international, government grants and financial assistance available for SME’s, Digital platforms available to embark internationalization, emerging international markets that SMEs may penetrate, branding, marketing, success stories and various other current and vital topics. The Conference is aimed to gather more than 500 delegates from various industry including clients of the Kini Academy comprising of exporters, logistic providers, shippers, manufacturers, business-owners, entrepreneurs, trader’s, CEO’s and managers. The Conference will provide a platform for the delegates to leverage on each other’s area of expertise, discover potential business growth and share their knowledge.

Background of Company

Malaysian Export Academy (MEXA) was registered in October 2007 as a Company with the Registrar of Companies in Malaysia. Its main activities are training and education services and event management. The Academy has been certified ISO 9001:2008 standards in 2015. The Academy has been registered with the Human Resources Development Fund, Ministry of Human Resources of Malaysia. In this respect, almost all of its training programmes are fully subsidized by the said Fund. The Academy is also registered with the Ministry of Finance of Malaysia.

MEXA has won many government tenders to conduct short courses and professional programmes under various schemes that include 1 Malaysia Globally Recognized Industry and Professionals Programme, Minimum Wages Training Incentive, SME Senior Managers Development Programme and SME Upskilling Programmes. On the contrary, MEXA’s CEO, Dr. Abdul Kabur Ibrahim is also the President of the Malaysian Exporters Association (MEXPA). Thus, MEXA has organized various events previously in collaboration with MEXPA.
